New Year's Resolutions
1. Shut up and DO something. I have a bad habit of having good ideas, tinkering with it for a while, getting 80% there and then giving up. I want to have an idea, commit to it and at the end have something to show for it. My first project is an iPhone Remote Control for iTunes. I'm 80% done, but I've committed to giving a presentation on it during a brown bag here at work.

2. Don't consume anything with high-fructose corn syrup in the first four ingredients. This means I'm off soda. I haven't had any this year so far, but it's harder than I thought.

1. If it's a bad idea, it might be a good idea to quit. Sometimes, you have to get into a project to figure out that it sucks.
2. That's a great idea, but I'm sure it will be challenging. Ketchup has HFCS as the second ingredient, I noticed today.

1. They're not bad ideas, I usually just lose interest and stop messing with it. I need to follow the "release early, release often" mantra.

2. Depends on the ketchup, but yes, Heinz is terrible for you.

I actually had Heinz Organic Ketchup today. No HFCS. And real tomatos!

If you find yourself craving soda, it might help to have some sparkling mineral water and add a little bit of lemon or lime juice. You can also just get the flavored Calistoga stuff, which is pretty good.

When I've wanted to give up sodas, sparkling water has become a staple in my diet, because sometimes I just want that fizz. There's also a ton of all-natural flavoring syrups, and some non-sugar ones, that you can get to add to sparkly water. You can also buy gadgets that will take water and sparkle it for you, but you have to drink a LOT of sparkles for it to make money sense against just buying pre-sparkly water.

Hi,
I picked up your blog with my HFCS google alert.
Our house has been HFCS free for three months. It's hard but here
a few suggestions:
Sodas: Goose Island Root Beer (Chicago)
Walgreens make a HFCS-free soda, couple of flavors. The
orange isn't bad
StopHFCS.com lists foods that are HFCS-free.
European import stores. Europe wisely prohibits genetically modified
foods (GMO) which safely eliminates HFCS.
If you want to raise your blood pressure,
go to www.corn.org/NSFC2006.pdf Courtesy of the Corn Refiners Assoc.,
p29-30 list all the foods and products that contain HFCS. A few
surprises even for me: bagels, soups, cough syrups.
Hawkishly read the labels, campaign for GMO labeling.
Take care,

1. I like your mantra to release early, often. It's tasty.
2. That is a good goal. I couldn't do it, but I respect it. We need more crop diversity in our diets. A quick snack of Doritos and a Coke comes from the same basic element: corn. Corn chips and corn syrup mixed with carbonated water. How is that good for anyone? Aaargh.

80/20 rule

By the 80/20 rule only 20% of the effort is required to do the first 80% of the work and it takes the remaining 80% of the effort to complete the last 20% of the work. That means you will have to give up starting four similarly sized projects for each one you want to actually complete.
